ROSWELL — Portales High School golfer Donavin Sanchez took second place Tuesday in the Sun Country Junior PGA Tournament at Spring River Golf Course in Roswell, according to his father Martin Sanchez.

Sanchez fired a five-under par 67 during the one-day tournament. The score was the PHS senior’s lifetime best at that course, according to his father.

Jeffrey Odell of Alamogordo edged out Sanchez with a 66 for the win. Sanchez was last year’s defending champion for the tournament.

Sanchez will compete next at the Desert Sun Classic Pro Am in Roswell Friday through Sunday.

Martin Sanchez also reported that another PHS golfer, senior William Archibeque, is competing at the Abilene Junior Golf Tournament in Abilene, Texas through Thursday. He shot a 72 qualifying round on Monday.
