Coaching search continues
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Clovis High athletic director Brian Stacy said Tuesday that he hopes to be able to fill the position of girls basketball coach by the end of the month.
CHS has been looking for a coach since Miles Watters, the state’s winningest girls prep basketball coach, announced his resignation on April 9.
Stacy said last week that the school had received six applications, all seeking physical education teaching positions. The problem is that a P.E. position is not open at this time.
One of the applicants, though, is current Lady Wildcats assistant Gabe Apodaca, who served under Watters for the past two seasons.
“I’ve had a lot of phone calls on it, and I directed them to apply to the central (administration) office,” Stacy said.
He said he will interview at least five candidates, but the position has to match up with a teaching position.
Watters, a history teacher at CHS, coached the Lady Cats for seven seasons and led them to three Class 5A championship game berths. Clovis won the title in 2005 when it finished with a 30-0 record.
His overall record in 28 years as a girls prep coach in New Mexico is 526-105.
