Strebeck scores 12 in West's loss

CANYON — Layne Strebeck scored 12 points, but his West All-Star squad ended up in second place with an 83-73 loss to the North in the title game of the Golden Spread All-Star series, held this weekend at West Texas A&M’s First United Bank Center.

“It was fun today,” said Strebeck, one of three local players selected to the West. “The North was pretty good, really athletic.”

The other local players, Clovis teammate Jaden Isler and Texico’s Courtland Luscombe, did not play. Luscombe missed to attend Texico High’s prom Saturday night, and Isler pulled out of the series for medical reasons following his March 27 collapse at a softball game in Canyon.
