Next week, Portales boys basketball coach Mark Gallegos reconvenes Camp Ram for the 10th straight year.

The Ram basketball camp for boys from third to ninth grade begins at 9 a.m. Monday at the Ram gymnasium.

The four-day camp, which runs through Thursday is divided into two sections. Third through sixth-graders meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The afternoon session is set for 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. for seventh-grade through 9th-grade.

The cost for the camp is $40, and campers can register the day of the event. Attendees also receive a free T-shirt with the registration.

Gallegos says this is a good opportunity for Portales youngsters who want to improve their basketball skills before getting into high school.

“It’s amazing how many varsity kids we’ve had come through this program that have attended this camp,” Gallegos said.

Along with the Portales Ram coaching staff, several of the Ram varsity players will be instructing campers as well.

“It’s fun to watch the varsity kids interact with the youngsters and teach them the fundamentals of good basketball,” Gallegos said.

For questions or more information, contact Gallegos at 799-1748.

“It’s a lot of fun for everybody,” Gallegos added.
