Second-ranked Lady Rockets drop Clovis to 3-2 for season.

ROSWELL — The Clovis High volleyball team got off to a fast start Thursday night against Roswell Goddard, but it didn’t last.

The Lady Rockets, ranked second in Class 4A, stormed back for a 16-25, 25-13, 25-14, 26-24 win over Clovis Thursday night.

CHS coach Darrel Ray said he thought Goddard, playing its home opener, came out a little tight.

“Everything they did (in the first game) was bad and everything we did was good,” Ray said.

Goddard (3-1) dominated the middle two games before the Lady Wildcats (3-2) recovered from a six-point deficit to lead 24-23 in game 4.

“We had game point, and we couldn’t make the play to finish,” Ray said.

“We were pretty happy with the way we came back, but we’ve got to get some better swings from our big three hitters (Antiesha Brown, Lainey Flatow and Meagan Baglien),” Ray said.

“Flatow compiled eight kills and two blocks for Clovis, whileDelaney Ware had four kills and three blocks.

“It was a good match at this point for us to see what we’ve got to work on,” Ray said.

Goddard edged Clovis in the junior varsity preliminary, winning the third game 15-13.

The Lady Cats return to action on Tuesday with a match at Santa Fe High.
